Sir Edward Crofton by Turlough Carolan; arr. for guitar by John Feeley.

Sir Edward Crofton by Turlough Carolan; arr. for guitar by John Feeley.

Sir Edward Crofton by Turlough Carolan (1670-1738); arranged for guitar by John Feeley. Notation + Tab; with fingering.

Many of Carolan’s tunes were written for and dedicated to the gentry who lived in the ‘great Irish houses’. The Crofton family first moved to Ireland during Elizabethan times and were given an estate in Mote, County Roscommon as a reward for their services to King Charles II during the Cromwellian period. The subject of this song, Sir Edward Crofton, was made the 2nd Baronet of Mote, County Roscommon in 1675 when he was still a minor. The lyrics which survive do not seem to fit well with the air. They indicate that it was a drinking song.
