 Although today Carolan is known chiefly for his instrumental music, many of the tunes attributed to him originally had lyrics when first composed. He wrote and dedicated songs and melodies for his patrons, however, there is no mention of a dedicatee in this beautiful air. The canonic section starting at bar 19 can be omitted or replaced by the first A section if preferred.
